Rules and coach info
Game clock and substitutions
- Games are 25 minutes. The official game clock controls playing time, and the buzzer ends each game.
- Unlimited substitutions during your team’s possession, except for injuries.
- Teams must be ready to play when the 5-minute changeover ends.
Offside
- A floating offside line is used.
- Offside resets when the ball crosses back over the centre line.
Pushing from behind near the boards
- A push from behind near the boards is a 12-yard penalty kick and a yellow or red card.
- A second such offence by the same player is an automatic red card and another penalty kick.
Red cards
- A player shown a red card sits out the rest of that game and the next game.
- A second red card in the tournament means disqualification from the rest of the event.
Penalty kicks and ball in play
- After a foul in the penalty area, players line up behind the red retreat line. The ball stays live after the kick, and players may play rebounds.
- The ball stays in play off the boards. Play stops if it hits the roof or netting, or goes into the players’ box.
- Goal kicks, throw-ins and corners as usual. Corner kicks are indirect. Roof restarts are indirect, from centre.
- A tied bracket final is decided by a Golden Goal shootout with a single shooter.
For coaches
- Submit your final roster before your first game: 8 to 14 players, born 2013 or later. Jersey numbers must be clearly visible for award selections.
- Only the official tournament warm-up ball is provided. Personal balls are not allowed on the field during changeovers.
- Coaches, players and spectators treat referees, tournament staff and opposing teams with respect.
- Please use the garbage bins and help keep dressing rooms, washrooms and spectator areas clean.
New to arena soccer?
Arena soccer is soccer — just faster, more intense, and indoors. End-to-end rushes, tons of touches and quick decisions, goals and rebounds off the boards: a safe, affordable and fun way to play through the winter. Some call it “Sockey”. See the Major Arena Soccer League at maslsoccer.com.
Scotia Barn has warm indoor viewing, a restaurant overlooking the field, and spectator zones right behind the glass. Players love the energy; spectators love the atmosphere. The perfect way to stay sharp over the Remembrance Day holiday.
